Latest Update 29th January 2021

In light of the extension of the period of restrictions the International Protection Appeals Tribunal will not be in a position to facilitate on site hearings up to, and including, 5th March 2021.

A communication will issue to each legal representative/appellant directly with regard to new arrangements or, where necessary, the postponement of any affected hearing. As previously notified, the Tribunal is now conducting some appeal hearings by way of audio-video link.

  • In this regard the Tribunal would bring to your notice that the Civil Law and Criminal Law (Miscellaneous Provisions) Act 2020 (Section 31) (International Protection Appeals Tribunal) (Designation) Order 2020 (S.I. 715/2020) designates the Tribunal as a body which may carry out its hearings by way of remote hearing. The Designation Order came into effect on 31 December 2020.

The Tribunal will be in direct contact with legal representatives and appellants with regard to the status of, and next steps for, of each affected appeal.

  • Appeals scheduled from the 1st February 2021, which are deemed suitable, will proceed by way of audio-video link on the date already assigned for the hearing and direct contact will be made by the Tribunal confirming the necessary arrangements
  • Where an audio-video hearing is not deemed suitable, the appeal will be postponed and subsequently rescheduled and again; direct contact will be made by the Tribunal with regard to next steps
  • It is also open to appellants to withdraw their request for an oral hearing and to have their appeal dealt with on the papers, if the Tribunal Member to whom the appeal has been assigned, is of the opinion that such a course of action is in accordance with fair procedures and natural justice.

Please note, in line with the current COVID-19 public health advice the Tribunal limiting the number of staff attending the Tribunal’s premises and staff will be working remotely, in so far as possible. Therefore, all correspondence and communication with the Tribunal should be by email to [email protected].

  • Please quote your / your client’s Person ID Number and IPAP number in the subject header in all communications.
